Irish Imprint
One of the biggest representations of Irish culture is a pub uptown known as The Banner. On their website they describe their bar as “a warm and eclectic mix of Irish and American hospitality.” The building was once a hotel and bar owned by a young Irish Business man in Rockland known as B.F. Richardson. Now The Banner a bustling sports bar where the Irish influence brings the people of Rockland together. They have many musical and live entertainment nights at The Banner, such as an annual Thanksgiving Eve party where karaoke is hosted by local DJ Mark Shaom. They also hold what they call “The Wednesday Night Jam” on a weekly basis where all types of music are encouraged to perform, from blues smgers to acoustic soloists. Another Irish pub called the Rockland Bar & Grill was recently opened by a man named Noel Bowler, who also owns an Irish pub in Quincy Massachusetts as well. Bowler immigrated here in the late 1980s as he was struggling to find work in Ireland. The Rockland Bar and Grill is always participating in musical activities they have weekly open mic nights, and live performers. The Britt Schip Duo has made a few appearnances in Rockland they have a guitar player and vocalist, and they preform acoustic covers of popular songs. The Enterprise labels the bar as “a taste of Ireland on Union Street” (the center strip).
